iPage Reviews

iPage has been on the market for 25 years and hosts more than a million websites. It has two data centers in the USA.

iPage provides pretty cheap web hosting plans. In fact, at $1.99 per month for three years, iPage’s single shared hosting plan is among the cheapest we’ve reviewed. They also offer two WordPress-based plans that include SiteLock and automatic malware removal.

iPage has a number of appealing features, including a new website builder, excellent customer service, high uptime, and low-cost, shared hosting based on a single plan with “unlimited” perks in several key areas. There are a few flaws that cause iPage to fall short of DreamHost, HostGator, Hostwinds, and other Editors’ Choice picks, but it’s still a rock-solid web host that’s inexpensive.

We’ll look at all the hosting plans and pricing and if it is worth it or not.

Shared Hosting Plans

Shared hosting is a type of web hosting that involves multiple sites coexisting on a single server Sites in this situation share server resources, so a large traffic surge on Site X can.

Unfortunately, have a negative impact on Site Y’s performance. If you’re looking for cheap hosting, shared hosting is a good option; if you want more server resources devoted to your site, you should go with VPS or dedicated hosting. More on that later.

iPage offers a single Linux-based shared hosting plan that starts at $2.99 per month for a one-year subscription. If you choose the three-year plan, the price drops to $1.99 per month. That’s a great deal, and the simplicity of the single plan means you won’t have to do much research before getting started. iPage’s shared hosting includes unlimited disk space, monthly data transfers, and email addresses, allowing it to scale with your business.

VPS Hosting plans

iPage also provides VPS hosting. If you need a server with more horsepower than shared hosting provides, consider VPS hosting. Multiple sites are housed on a server in this hosting class, though far fewer than on a shared hosting server. A VPS server is more expensive, but it provides more server power. It’s a good option to consider if you expect high traffic volumes or have specific compliance requirements that prevent you from using shared servers.

The VPS hosting server has three tires- There are three levels: basic, business, and premium. Basic (starting at $24.99 per month) has only 1GB of RAM, 40GB of storage, and 1TB of data transfers per month. Business (starting at $59.49 per month) includes 4GB of RAM, 90GB of storage, and 3TB of data transfers per month. The Optimum plan (starting at $99.99 per month) includes 8GB of RAM, 120GB of storage, and 4TB of data transfers per month.

Dedicated Web Hosting Plans

When you run a site that requires a lot of system resources, dedicated hosting is the way to go. With dedicated hosting, your site exists on its own server, utilizing all of the server’s power. This is the hardware required to power a website capable of handling millions of visitors per year.

The three Linux-based dedicated server hosting plans offered by iPage are not significantly different from those offered by BlueHost. For $149 per month, the Startup server includes 4GB of RAM, 500GB of storage, 5TB of monthly data transfers, three IP addresses, and a free domain name. The Professional plan, which costs $194 per month, includes 8GB of RAM, 1TB of disk space, 10TB of monthly data transfers, and four IP addresses. The most expensive Enterprise server plan costs $239 per month and increases RAM to 16GB, monthly data transfers to 15TB, and the number of IP addresses to five.

Word Press Web Hosting

WordPress powers more than 30% of all websites. It’s easy to see why; WordPress is simple to use and has robust WordPress theme and plug-in ecosystems that allow you to customize the content management system as you see fit.

iPage, like many of its competitors, provides Linux-based WordPress hosting starting at $7.49 per month for the WP Starter plan and $10.49 per month for the WP Essential plan. Both offer a domain name and unlimited storage, email, and monthly data transfers, but WP Essential adds enhanced security and the ability to run an unlimited number of websites. iPage does not offer managed WordPress hosting, which would provide your site with additional, white-glove support.

Reseller Web Hosting Plans

Reseller hosting, also known as “white label hosting,” refers to the business of starting your own web hosting company by reselling tools and services from larger hosting companies. Check out iPage’s reseller hosting packages if you want to get into the web hosting business but don’t want to deal with infrastructure issues. Unfortunately, unlike most other web hosting companies, iPage does not list its reseller specs on its homepage—you must contact customer service to learn more.

We suggested Hostwind’s reseller plans. Hostwinds’ plans start at $8.99 per month for unlimited email, storage, and data transfers and include dedicated and VPS reseller packages for both Linux and Windows.

Pros of iPage Web Hosting

When you sign up for the first three years, iPage is extremely affordable. Their customer service is pleasant. Furthermore, they have access to nearly every tool or open-source app imaginable.

Here’s everything we liked about them:

Cheap Web Hosting

Over the years, iPage has consistently been one of the cheapest web hosts we’ve reviewed. And it appears that every now and then, they find a way to further reduce the starting price.

The iPage currently starts at $1.99 per month. As you’ll see in a moment, the value is also excellent. Because they only offer one shared hosting plan, nothing is ‘held back’ to force you to upgrade.

The only catch is that you must pay for three years in advance to get the $1.99/month price. Otherwise, the monthly regular (read: “renewal”) rate is $7.99.

Provides Many Third-Party Apps

For the first year, all hosting plans include free domain registration. This immediately saves you $15 per year.

You’ll also receive a free email address and an SSL certificate. Each email account is customized for your domain and includes email forwarding, autoresponders, spam filters, virus protection, and even POP3/IMAP accounts so you can configure everything in Outlook.

This plan includes unlimited disk space,’scalable’ bandwidth (mostly unmetered), and unlimited MySQL databases. Not bad at all.

If you’re looking for a drag-and-drop website builder that comes with six pages and hundreds of templates, iPage has one. iPage also has a plethora of popular open-source apps available for download. This includes blogging and content management systems such as WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.

Money-Back Guarantee

iPage offers a 30-day, no-questions-asked refund policy. Simply notify them within the first month if you are dissatisfied, and they will gladly refund your hosting fees.

Domain names and additional services, like those provided by other hosts, are usually non-refundable.

For the first year, iPage provides a free domain name. If you request a refund, a $15 fee will be deducted to cover the cost of the domain name. The good news is that you will still own the domain name and will be able to move it or ‘point’ it to another hosting company.

Good Customer Support

iPage provides customer service via an online help desk and ticketing system. They provide tutorials if you want to try to solve the problem quickly on your own. They also provide phone and chat support.

Cons of iPage Web Hosting

iPage hosting is one of the cheapest in the market but some of their performance stats don’t go well with all the good.

Slow Loading Speed

Over the last six months, iPage’s loading times have increased, with an average speed of 1650 ms. That’s more than eight times slower than A2 Hosting, our fastest host. As a result, iPage clearly has room for improvement in this area.

There are numerous additional fees for additional services.

True, iPage’s core offering is solid. You essentially get unlimited storage and bandwidth, as well as access to dozens of popular apps.

You will also receive a free domain name for the first year, an SSL certificate, and an email address.

The first additional fee that appears is the renewal rate. A renewal rate of $7.99/month isn’t bad – we’ve seen much higher rates.

However, when you combine this with a few other extra fees, your pricing begins to snowball. Some of the premium hosts we’ve reviewed include extra security or backups as part of their basic plan. iPage keeps their basic plan affordable by omitting these features.

There Is No cPanel (vDeck)

Most web hosts use cPanel as a sort of dashboard. It’s the industry standard, and if you use it somewhere, you’ll know where everything is when you log in somewhere else

iPage does not use cPanel, instead opting for vDeck, which is not quite as robust as cPanel.

This isn’t always a big deal for beginners. It’s usually more of a problem for people who are used to working on a consistent platform. It may appear that learning a new platform and how to use it efficiently is a waste of time if you have already mastered that on another platform.

No Free Migration

The majority of the web hosts we’ve reviewed will move an existing site for free to their servers. This is especially useful if you aren’t a technical person and don’t want to waste time figuring out how to move site files, re-point your domain, and other tasks.

iPage, on the other hand, does not provide any free site migrations. Instead, they will only relocate a site for a one-time fee of $150. When compared to other hosts, this is on the high side.

Final Verdict

iPage has a lot going for it, such as quality plans, dependable uptime, and a knowledgeable customer support team, but the lack of monthly subscription plans and cloud- and Windows-based hosting options knocks it down a notch. DreamHost, HostGator, Hostwinds, and our other Editors’ Choice selections provide more comprehensive hosting plans.
